Herrick Wins In 34th Annual Telly Awards

Nashville, TN – The Telly Awards has named Nashville band HERRICK as a Bronze winner in the 34th Annual Telly Awards for the music video for “Do You Love Me.” With nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents, the project won the Bronze Award in the Internet/Online Video-Music Video category.

Co-written by Donna and Kerry Herrick, “Do You Love Me” appears on the album NEW DANCE which was produced by Herrick with Music Row hit makers Michael Bonagura and Buddy Cannon. The single recently broke into the Top 100 on the Country Breakout Chart. The music video was directed by Robb Smith and produced by Blue Hawk Productions.

Herrick is comprised of Donna (mandolin/lead vocals), her husband Kerry Herrick (bass/vocals), percussionist/drummer Jeff Bradshaw and lead guitar player Jefferson Rogers. The music is varied and diverse, mixing tradition with contemporary sounds. Donna shines with startling vocal range and power. Herrick’s dynamic live show has given the band a stronghold on the touring circuit with an average 125 shows a year. The band is known for compelling songwriting, comprehensive instrumentation, and killer harmonies.

Herrick previously won the prestigious Country Song Award in the 11th Annual Independent Music Awards (IMA) for “Cry Memphis,” which also appears on NEW DANCE. Earlier, Herrick’s dynamic musicianship and intricate harmonies proved to be a winning combination in the Jim Beam Battle of the Bands at the BamaJam music festival.

The Telly Awards program was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

For it’s 34th season, The Telly Awards once again joined forces with YouTube to give the public the power to view and rate videos submitted as part of the People’s Telly Awards. In addition to recognition from the Silver Telly Council, the judging panel that selects the Telly Awards winners, the Internet community helps decide the People’s Telly Awards winners.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, Executive Director of the Telly Awards. “Herrick’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.”

A prestigious judging panel of over 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10% of entries are chosen as Winners of the Silver Telly, our highest honor. Approximately 25% of entries are chosen as Winners of the Bronze Telly.

“We worked really hard on this video and the album as a whole,” Donna Herrick says. “We were in a really powerful period of growth musically, and kept discovering new directions. We wanted it to be the best it could possibly be for our fans; no cutting corners. The album was wonderful and painful and exciting; a true labor of love that was four years in the making. The video was great fun and is a solid representation of the song and our live performance.”

Canadian Hard Rock Band, Abandoned Souls, Promote Their Latest Release Even As They Record New Album

Abandoned Souls have a lot on their plate these days and they like it that way. This hungry four-piece hard rock band is chomping at the bit to promote their music—even the stuff that hasn’t been recorded yet. They plan to start recording the follow-up to their 2012 LP, “Damned If You Don’t.” in June, while playing a few select shows to keep themselves in the eyes and ears of the public. One more video for the current album is also now in pre-production and scheduled to be released this summer.

Abandoned Souls really got going in early 2012 when the current line-up came together. Featuring members of past Canadian recording artists, Gypsy Rose, Blue Bones and Aces Wild, the new group emerged with a tight, hard rock sound that’s been compared to heavy hitters like Three Days Grace and Godsmack. The band now is James Todd handling lead vocals and bass, Derek De Kort on lead guitar, Tim Thompson on guitar and vocals and Steve Thomas on drums and vocals.

The band is influenced by metal giants (Sabbath, Ozzy, Zeppelin, Metallica, to name a few) and while they can certainly thank their heroes for their heavy tones, the band is also influenced by their own lives. Music for them is a way to turn emotions into creative energy. As James Todd says, “Music is about empowering yourself and an outlet for getting rid of negative energy that is around you.” That’s a win- win situation for artists and audiences alike.

The biggest accomplishment in the life of the band so far, has been the release of their most recent album. Short of manufacturing the physical copies of “Damned If You Don’t” themselves, the band was responsible for every other step along the way, from recording and producing to mixing and designing the packaging. Being that involved is bound to give you a sense of pride, especially when the end result is such a solid, heavy album. Another source of pride is James Todd’s assuming the double duty of lead vocals while still helping to anchor down the low end on bass. This marks a new era for the band, who now have a reenergized attitude towards what comes next.

The band’s first album, “Circle of Shadows,” was released in 2006. It was mixed by Jay Ruston who also had a hand in mixing music for some very big names in metal, including Stone Sour, Killswitch Engage, Kill Devil Hill, Steel Panther and thrash kings, Anthrax. In 2006, Abandoned Souls provided the sole opening support for King’s X in their hometown of London, Ontario. That year the band also played the “Thirsty Souls Festival” in London Ontario with Default and Thornley and in 2009, they shared the stage with My Darkest Days in Whitby, Ontario.

Even though the band will be heading back into the studio, fans can still follow their activities. They’ll be hosting a video blog on their youtube channel to document behind-the-scenes action as they get down to the serious business of recording an album that will feature their best material to date. The band also has a show scheduled for Friday, June 21, at Norma Jean’s in London, Ontario.

Head over to MTV.com and check out the band’s official Artist Profile page and look for them to be featured on a compilation this summer from WiFi PR. Download cards will be distributed at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

Abandoned Souls music is currently available through CDBaby, iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Simfy, Google Music, Rdio, Medianet, LastFM, GreatIndieMusic and BandCamp.

Toronto Electro Dub Hop Trio, Abstract Random, To Record New Album, Tour Europe

Abstract Random is not about ambiguity or uncertainty, as their name might imply. In fact, they’re quite focused in their delivery of funky, hypnotic beats and lyrics that cut to the heart of issues that are important to them. Whether they’re rapping or singing about gender identity, homophobia or politics on a local or global scale, the group does not shy away from their principles. They are as upfront and as driven as Sun Sun’s beats.

Formed in 2009 by Jamilah Malika, (vocals, Korg) and Sun Sun, aka F. Nocera (producer, vocals, visuals), Ayo Leilani (vocals, loop pedal) joined as a permanent member in 2011. Abstract Random is a part of the 88 Days of Fortune collective in Toronto. This grass roots organization provides platforms and resources for a variety of groups who create art and music around the Toronto area. Working within a supportive community like 88 Days of Fortune, provides Abstract Random the opportunity to develop their unique blend of rap, electro, dub and hip hop, as well as the stage show that supports it. These three Canadian women combine their talents to create a musical collage of beats, samples and lyrics. They mix that with poetry, costumes, face paint, lights and visual effects, thereby creating the Abstract Random experience. They want to free your mind and your feet. The group is influenced musically by Frank Ocean, MIA, Burning Spear, as well as Shabazz Palaces and THEESatisfaction, who they’ve shared the stage with. Personal politics, relationships, homophobia, justice and feminism also influence and inform their lyrics. They take the in-your-face politics of Rage Against the Machine, remove the abrasive guitar, but keep the rhythm intact. Like MIA, they use understated but catchy-as-hell hooks to give listeners a dose they might not realize they’re getting until it hits them.

The group’s last North American show will be Friday, May 24 at Le Cagibi in Montreal, before the European tour with Ayo Leilani’s new experiential Hip-Hop Soul project, Witch Prophet begins. Dates include: Friday, May 31, at the Schokaladen in Mitte, Berlin Germany in association with Riot Grrrl Berlin; Saturday, June 1st at the Alhambra in Oldenburg, Germany. Tuesday, June 4th, London, UK, TBA; Wednesday, June 5th, at the The White Lion in London, UK; Thursday, June 6th at the ZeroZero Bar in Paris, France. Saturday, June 8th with local musicians Bonnie Banane and Walter Mecca at the Le Petit Bain also in Paris.

Once they get back to the Western Hemisphere, they’ll continue to expand their reach and play in front of new and diverse audiences, which will include a performance at NXNE on June 13th at May in Toronto, Canada. They take the stage at 1:00am. They plan to incorporate even more theatrics into their already theatrical events and put on shows that tell stories through visuals and music. They hope to continue building bridges to connect with people through their art.
Joe Moses Signs Million Dollar Joint Venture With Pinnacle Records

“I work everyday. That’s my job.” Los Angeles based rapper Joe Moses has made loyalty to his roots and his work ethic the foundation of an exploding career. Having met and surpassed milestones never even dreamed of by most independent artists, Moses has forged his rap career with AOB (All Out Bosses) comprised of close friends, family and a street team over 300 people deep in California alone. Together with his team, he has created momentum affording Moses a career boasting multiple tracks spinning on commercial radio, and collaborations with A-list artists Pit Bull, Trina, Snoop and The Game (“Ratchets”). Moses’ live shows have had him paired with Waka Flocka, Tyga , E40, Ty Dolla Sign and YG and even a stint of The Drake Tour. A constant innovator of the “new game,” Moses shined as the first west coast member of 1017 Brick Squad (Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame, OJ Da Juiceman), and has penned songs for some of the biggest names in the industry. He was named in the Top 5 Rappers in LA by Hip Hop Weekly, and even wrote an anthem for The University of Washington Huskies per their request. Joe Moses has done of this while staying independent. That is until now.

Pinnacle Records (www.pinnaclerecord.com) has put their full marketing and promotional team behind Moses’ upcoming record. The artist recently signed a million dollar joint venture with the label, who is set to drop Moses as their second release of the summer. Moses has chosen the perfect time to expand his team, and a perfect label partnership with which to do it. The debut of his latest video “Fresh Out” shows a current, evolved side of Moses and his recent music definitely lends itself to a larger audience. The label plans to reintroduce Moses to college campuses and festival crowds, and knows he will continue to distinguish himself as an artist, rapper and lyricist with crossover appeal.

Even with all of this, the rapper’s music and message will still stand firm within his experiences. He still “got the streets,” works hard and he still does life on a level no one can touch, signed or otherwise. Twist, his brother and head of AOB’s marketing initiatives, adds to the accolades, “Ive watch my lil bro go super hard since he got out of prison…BIG JOE WOULD BE PROUD TO SEE THIS DAY…He deserves it all hard work and dedication always pays off!”

Tony Adamo Miles Of Blu CD Five Stars/Amazon

5.0 out of 5 stars Grooves Galore! A new Genre!!!, May 21, 2013

This review is from: Miles of Blu (Audio CD)

Tony Adamo is a hip cat, a bad cat! His rhymes and rhythms will have you grooving for life! His words are pure truth — He has invented an entirely new genre: “HipSpokenWord!” He sings a bit, but his main thing: The hip words. Produced by master drummer Mike Clark, of Wolff & Clark Expedition and HeadHunters fame, Tony is backed by an all-star aggregation of musicians. Players like bassist Richie Goods, trumpeter//arranger Tim Ouimette, organist Delbert Bump, pianist Michael Wolff and even Tower of Power’s own funky doctor Stephen “Doc” Kupka all burn and groove on every track. Tony pays homage to James Brown (“JB”), discusses his country’s ills (“America R We Free”), talks through a couple of Tower of Power tunes (a shuffling “Don’t Change Horses” and the ever popular “What is Hip?”), speaks of Miles, Monk and bebop, and even zooms to Mars a la Sun-Ra!

This is compelling stuff, inspired by the Beat Poets like Kerouac and Ginsberg, singer/songwriters like Gil-Scott Heron and Mark Murphy. Adamo deserves to be in their midst; he carries the torch admirably. This is thoughtful, grooving, burning music that is good for your head, your heart and your SOUL!

BRAVISSIMO TONY!

Detroit Band, Half Light Music, Seek To Expand Audience With Regional Shows And Digital Releases On iTunes

Detroit area band, Half Light Music, got to enjoy the International Pop Overthrow when that long-running festival hit Detroit last month. They had a great view from the stage as headliners on the first night of the four day event. Now they can enjoy a little break before they take the stage again for a performance at The Hard Rock Cafe in Detroit, MI, on May 30th.

Despite the gig at a major Pop Festival, HLM don’t just play pop music. While they certainly do incorporate the hooks and dynamics of great pop songs, their music is broader and reaches across genres, which is exactly what they’re aiming for. HLM are Cheyenne Goff who handles vocals as well as rhythm guitar duties; Marty Yount, lead guitar; Bob Cook on drums and Mike Glaser on keys and programming. As a band, HLM want to appeal to a large audience who may not necessarily lean towards any one style of music. They want to get their sound to everybody and anybody who appreciates rock, rhythm and blue-eyed soul. They want to get people banging their heads, shuffling their feet, even slow dancing to their slow jams.

From the Motor City, birthplace of the auto industry and Motown, not to mention a few hard rockers and rhymers (Nugent, Seger, Kid Rock, Eminem), HLM want to continue that long tradition. They’re intent on playing larger regional shows and making their music available to fans everywhere, like Matchbox 20 and Maroon 5, who they’ve been compared to. Their musical heros knew how to reach people. Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles, Oasis and Coldplay—those groups delivered on a grand scale, as do more recent acts like The Fray, Our Lady Peace and Train who HLM also admire.

Forming just three years ago, HLM may be fairly new to the scene, but it’s band members have been seasoned in both the regional and national music scene. Vocalist Cheyenne Goff , bassist Don Patty and drummer Bob Cook, were all members of the Detroit rock band, Bliss 66. That band was fortunate enough (if hard work makes you fortunate) to sign to Epic Records in the early 00s. The Bliss 66 album Trip to the 13th was nominated for an Outstanding National Album award in 2002 at the Detroit Music Awards. After the split with Bliss 66, Cheyenne and Patty formed the Paper Street Saints with Charlie Grover from fellow Michigan band, Sponge. Paper Street Saints would not only be nominated for a Detroit Music Award in 2007 for their full-length record, Pride and Punishment, they would take that prize home.

It was from this musical past that Half Light Music presented itself in 2009, when they started writing, recording and performing gigs around Detroit. They released their self-titled debut in 2010. The nine tracks on this record showcases the bands musical chops and Cheyenne’s lyrical and vocal agility. It proved that they were capable of playing rousing rockers, but also able to bring it down with a ballad. Partial Illumination followed in 2011. The sophomore album features six new tunes, and remixes of their single “Find My Way” and “The Gambler” from their first album. Since coming together just three short years ago, the band has played commanding performances to eager crowds, opening for national touring acts like Buckcherry, Gin Blossoms and Nelly Furtado – a trend they’ll surely continue with their upcoming release, “Creative Differences” due out in September. Look for their past and future releases on iTunes, Amazon and other digital outlets.

Half Light Music has recently signed with (Wifi PR Group) as a client. Company Info: WiFi PR Group, Los Angeles, CA. http://www.wifiprgroup.com

Shmolts Want To Rock You Digitally… For Now

Shmolts (Pronounced Schmaltz) is an online collaboration but very importantly, a digital rock band. No, they’re not avatars, but they do exist solely in the electronic realm… for now. I guess you could call them an eBand of sorts. You could also call them the wave of the future. You see, back in the pre-Internet days, bands had to tour like dogs to build up a fan base. Travelling from town to town, never knowing what small number of locals might trickle through the door, putting their faith in promoters, club owners and the local media to maybe throw them a crumb of coverage or support—that was a lot of work that didn’t necessarily reap many rewards. Seems pretty backwards. Shmolts thinks it’s time to work smarter and build up the fan base first. Now that the Internet has saved the world why shouldn’t it save bands too? Shmolts is banking on this concept. It’s like Kickstarter, where you get the money before you press the record, they want to get the fans before they hit the road.

Shmolts is the creation of Jay Serrao, formerly of the band, Jay Serrao and The Juice (also known as The Juice). During this time the band toured the US, UK, even India and the Middle East, but Shmolts is planning bigger and thinking smaller—or is it planning smaller and thinking bigger? Doesn’t matter, the point is, Serrao, (with current collaborator, Morris Concas, aka MaW), plans to release singles and videos through various on-line outlets in order to build up an online army. Only then, will Shmolts go out and entertain the troops with their music.

Shmolts is influenced by the bombast of GNR and Led Zeppelin, the heaviness of Black Sabbath and Tool and the melody and lyrics of The Beatles and Bob Dylan. Shmolts is unconcerned with writing material catering to a certain genre, but up to this point, the music has certainly been firmly in the rock category. Their song “Evil Eye” sounds like Axl Rose fronting Black Sabbath and “Point of View” sounds like a Guns N’ Roses ballad (without Axl’s vitriol) that also features great rock guitar riffs and some Rolling Stones boogie.

You can sample and buy Shmolts music online through iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Bandcamp. Shmolts is also proud to work with the American Red Cross and Amazon Conservation Association in conjunction with Fandistro.

Recently, Jay successfully worked with photographer, Sean Conway, and directed a concept photoshoot for Shmolts based on the Sixties horror flick, The Innocents. You can check out some of those photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/shmolts/

WORLD5 To Release New Single ‘Maybe There’s A Way’ June 18

The track is the second single from their upcoming LP release, due out in fall of 2013. “Maybe There’s a Way” comes hot on the heels of their popular single track, “Man of Action,” which debuted in March of this year and immediately shot to the National Top 100 Airplay Chart.

“Maybe There’s a Way” is unlike “Man of Action” in terms of tempo and groove, being a mellower romantic ballad in the tradition of artists like Phil Collins, Sting, and Yes, whereas “Man of Action” recalls the clean-channel, poppy orchestra rock of 80s favorite, Joe Jackson (“Is She Really Going Out With Him”). Where “Man of Action” stood up and shouted, “Maybe There’s a Way” leans in and croons. It is a heartfelt, touching song with hints of country around its edges and rock ‘n’ roll in its great, big heart.

As usual, the flawless, earnest singing of Grammy Award winner Pat Hunt claims much of the song’s spotlight. The soaring lead guitar work of Steffen Goeres is gloriously clarion and prominent. Fellow Grammy winner Randy Miller’s bass is precise and flowing, in perfect harmony with drummer Raimund Breitfeld’s subtle power, the keys lay way back and create a curtain of delicate sound against which everything else stands out.

In other words, WORLD5 has recorded another spotless, almost painfully perfect single. “Maybe There’s a Way” manages to be sad and strong at the same time, powerful and genteel, a work of great artistry with rock and roll as a canvas and classic rock sensibilities for a paint palette. Viewed as a pairing with “Man of Action,” “Maybe There’s a Way” continues to prove that music fans of the world have much to look forward to with WORLD5’s forthcoming full-length album. With any luck, they won’t have to wait long.

“Maybe There’s a Way” by WORLD5 is available online worldwide 18 June 2013.

MusicDishTV Presents “Up & Down” By German Pop Singer Fiona

German-born pop singer Fiona released the music video to her single “Up & Down” through her Youtube account last year, and the video has already garnered over 5000 views.

The simplistic video serves as a very appropriate accompaniment to Fiona’s pop-synth sounds. Featuring Fiona with her lover spending time on the beach, the video tinges with a bright, energetic vibe. Fiona herself wears a headpiece and is radiant in her array of colorful dresses.

The single itself is a great mix of pop and Euro-dance. While Fiona claims clear influence from the euro-dance movement, her vocal abilities and musical style closely resembles that of mainstream American singers.

Despite being only 15, Fiona already has an illustrious musical career. She toured throughout Germany as a member of the girl group “Lollipop” over the past couple of years. Her style is constantly evolving and soon she will catch up to her idols, Ke$ha and Katy Perry.
